Over the course of more than a decade and a half, Dr. Barr has utilized his expertise in risk management in his position for the United States Department of Transportation. On a daily basis, in his role as senior research engineer at the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, he consults on technical support and conducts safety aviation research and safety risk management studies. Additionally, he performs quantitative analyses for the Federal Administration Association and cost-benefit analyses for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Dr. Barr excels in his field due to his prior industry experiences as an aerospace program manager, and his extensive educational background, which includes a Bachelor of Arts in aeronautical engineering from the University of California, Davis, a Master of Arts in the same field from The Pennsylvania State University, and a Ph.D. in systems engineering from The University of New Hampshire. He decided to pursue this line of work in particular because of his dissertation professor, who inspired him to move into systems analysis for highway safety applications. In the coming years, Dr. Barr hopes to start working with the next generation of transportation to modernize air traffic systems.
